Crime and Policing Act 2026 receives Royal Assent

The Crime and Policing Bill received Royal Assent and is now law as the Crime and Policing Act 2026.

The Act introduces a number of important measures aimed at strengthening the response to crime and safeguarding, including provisions relevant to children and young people at risk of harm and exploitation.

Of particular relevance to partners working with children and families are new and strengthened measures relating to:

  • Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE)
  • Cuckooing
  • Forced concealment

These changes are intended to improve identification, protection, and disruption of exploitative practices, placing greater emphasis on safeguarding responses rather than criminalising victims.

Partners are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the legislation and consider the implications for local policy, practice, and multi‑agency working.
